Multi-homed Internet Border Design and Implementation
Romulus Global, Ltd. was contacted by a customer to implement a multi-homed Internet border. Internet connectivity had become a critical factor for the customer, having recently opened up a customer support website. Romulus Global guided the customer's IT personnel through the bureaucracy of obtaining a public IP block from one service provider that is routable on the global Internet, as well as through the process of requesting an Autonomous System number from ARIN, required for multi-homed Internet connectivity.
Romulus Global then designed and implemented the geographically redundant multi-homed Internet border and migrated the customer's Internet connectivity to the new infrastructure. In the process, ingress filter ACLS were implemented at the edge to filter improper traffic, and the Internet border hardware integrated into Cisco Security Manager (CSM) and Cisco MARS. Traffic shaping of outbound Internet traffic to fractional DS-3 speeds was implemented, helping ease ongoing Internet file transfer issues related to bursty TCP flows peaking and then backing off when congestion was experienced.
